Summer Mountain Camp Brings Adventure, Friendship, and Lasting Memories for One Stop Shop Youth
Brașov, Romaia – Between August 4–8, the children and teenagers from the One Stop Shop Center enjoyed an unforgettable mountain camp in Brașov County. Their days were filled with exciting activities, breathtaking landscapes, and opportunities to strengthen their friendships.
The adventure began with a visit to the famous Bran Castle, where the group was fascinated by the legendary home of Count Dracula. Another highlight was the exploration of Valea Cetății Cave, where nature’s wonders sparked the curiosity of the young participants. The group also embarked on a hike to the “La Chișătoare” waterfall. Although the path was sometimes challenging, the destination was worth every step. Upon arrival, the youth cooled their feet in the clear waters of the Turcu River, taking in the serenity of nature.
“The summer camp in Brașov was not just a trip for our children and teenagers — it was a life experience. Through every hike, visit, and shared moment, they discovered the beauty of nature, the richness of history, and the joy of being together as a community. At Roma Education Fund, we believe that education also happens outside the classroom, and this camp proved that learning, friendship, and personal growth can go hand in hand. I am proud of the way our young participants embraced every activity with curiosity, courage, and kindness, creating memories that will stay with them for a lifetime.” — Monica Călin, Program Director, Roma Education Fund
A special excursion took them to the “Bear Sanctuary” in Zărnești, Brașov, where they were thrilled to see these majestic animals up close. Later that day, they reached an altitude of 1,799 meters on Postăvaru Peak via cable car, enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Evenings were dedicated to outdoor team games, laughter, dancing, music, tubbing and roasting marshmallows around the campfire—a true celebration of summer.
The camp was also marked by special celebrations for Narzrin (17) and twins Radu and Kollia (15), who enjoyed their birthdays surrounded by friends from the Center.
“In the three years we’ve spent together at school, we’ve become like one big family—close-knit and full of warmth. Now, more than ever, we feel how much we support each other and how beautiful our friendship truly is.” – Izaura Dryma, facilitator
The last day of camp they visited Council Square and the iconic Black Church, followed by the Brașov Zoo, where the children were delighted to see penguins, sea lions, tigers, and many other animals.
The One-Stop-Shop Center, opened on April 25, 2023, supports Roma refugees from Ukraine and is funded through grants from the Council of Europe Development Bank’s Migrants and Refugees Fund.
