Roma Women Refugees from Ukraine Find Strength Through Skill-Building
BUCHAREST, Romania — At the end of May, mothers and young women from the One Stop Shop Center began a professional make-up course. The three-month course, held at a local accredited beauty school in Bucharest, combines theoretical lessons with hands-on training in professional make-up techniques, hygiene standards, colour theory, and customer care. Participants are guided by certified instructors and gain practical skills that can open new pathways toward employment or self-employment in the beauty industry.

This marks another important step towards independence, creativity, and self-confidence for participants. For many of the participants—Roma refugees from Ukraine—this program offers a space for self-expression and healing, as well as the chance to envision a future of autonomy and recognition in a new country.

The course is part of a broader program developed to strengthen the autonomy and social inclusion of Roma women and youth. It reflects the Center’s ongoing mission to promote dignity and empowerment through tailored, community-driven initiatives.
Stay connected as we follow the evolution of these inspiring women and share their achievements in the months ahead.

The One-Stop-Shop Center, opened on April 25, 2023, supports Roma refugees from Ukraine and is funded through grants from the Council of Europe Development Bank’s Migrants and Refugees Fund.
