The First Local REF Event for the “Master the Job Market! – Professional Training and Development Program”
Bucharest, 19 September – Yesterday, the Roma Education Fund Romania (REF) team organized the first local event for potential beneficiaries of the the project “Master the Job Market! – Professional Training and Development Program” at the Department of Social Assistance and Child Protection, Sector 2 headquarters. The event brought together over 60 participants, providing them with detailed information about the range of opportunities offered through the project.
The project aims to support individuals in the Bucharest–Ilfov region with integrated services including professional counseling, vocational training courses, and personalized assistance in the employment process. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the concrete steps they can take to improve their employability and access stable career opportunities. Attendees were informed about the opportunities available through the project, including:
- Counseling services
- Vocational training courses
- Personalized support in finding employment

Adrian Tabă, Employment Services Coordinator at REF Romania, emphasized the importance of this approach:
„After years of education-focused projects, we are now taking a hands-on approach in employment and professional qualification, giving people a real chance to build a better future. Employing Roma is not a public expense; it is an investment in the future of our communities. Every course, every meeting, and every step we take together is a real opportunity for change and progress. My goal is to support people and demonstrate that together we can turn opportunities into tangible results.”
The initiative begins with ten professional training courses in various fields, with the first sessions focusing on butcher and meat processing operator courses. Monica Călin, Program Director at REF Romania, highlighted the relevance of these programs:
„Even in the capital, many individuals still face challenges such as lack of formal education, insufficient qualifications, and unstable employment. These programs aim to provide greater stability and independence for vulnerable groups, helping them secure sustainable livelihoods.”

The success of the event was made possible through the collaboration and support of DGASPC Sector 2, whose engagement was essential in connecting the project with local communities.
